My Favorite DC Coffee Shops

Hello all!

With fall having officially begun and school back in session, there’s nothing I love more than to spend my weekends at a quaint coffee shop on a brisk autumn day, sipping lattes and reading or catching up on Netflix. It gives me an excuse to leave the house while the weather is still nice and explore different parts of the city!

This post is in honor of a pretty common request I get: What are my favorite small, local coffee shops around DC? Whenever I have family visiting who are looking for places to telework or DC-based friends who just want a change from their usual routines, I always send them to one of these quaint, delicious, and aesthetic locations. As much as I love a good Starbucks latte, there’s something special about being able to enjoy your drink in a calmer environment. I’m also a big fan of supporting small, local businesses and they always have the most delicious specialty drinks! Without further ado, here are my favorite DC Coffee Shops!

Cafe Georgetown – This newer hole-in-the-wall shop opened up in Georgetown last year and has yet to dissappoint! With an intimate space lit up by skylights, quirky seasonal-inspired latte art, and a wine bar to boot, I love bringing friends here to catch up for hours.

Grace Street Coffee – My weekend go-to for great coffee to wake me up in the morning. This shop has the best seasonal blends and a bunch of options to suit every taste. It’s also located in the cutest internet-cafe style setup with tons of seating options, a back patio, and includes a smoothie/acai bowl store, a deli, and a sandwich shop! I also adore teleworking here before I pretty much never have to leave the space all day!

Emissary – One of my favorite brunch spots in DC, I love chilling on their patio area or in one of the cozy nooks with a laptop sipping a coffee or matcha latte. This is also a great place to people watch since it’s located right off of Dupont Circle.

The Cup We All Race 4 – Located in the beautiful Line Hotel in Adams Morgan, this is more of a “grab and go” place than a “sit down and drink” place. However, it gives you an excuse to grab a cup to keep your energy up as you wander around AdMo!

Sospeso – While I don’t get to this one as often as I’d like due to the H Sreet location, this Mediterranean inspired restaurant has lots of delicious pastries, cute tiling that makes for a soothing ambiance, and a great assortment of coffee drinks!

Compass Coffee and Bluestone Lane – while not local coffeeshops in the traditional sense, these chains have beautiful spaces and great coffee options! There are multiple locations throughout DC and you really can’t go wrong with their drink selection.

Corridor Coffee – Unfortunately this hole-in-the-wall shop recently closed down, but they had a fabulous charcoal-infused “Goth Latte” and made a mean avocado toast.

I’ll continue to update this list of DC coffee shops as I explore more parts of this city, but if you need some spots in different areas outside of what I’ve suggested, be sure to check out this list too.
