Hello all,
With the final stretch of cold winter days ahead of us for the next two months, I often find myself in a bit of a style slump. It’s just so easy to throw on comfy jeans and a warm sweatshirt when temperatures drop below freezing, but I never feel excited about wearing those outfits on repeat. I previously posted my layering hacks in early January but wanted to expand on ways to really have fun with your winter style. What better way to get creative with cold-weather fashion than by incorporating faux fur into your looks?
I’m a huge fan of fake fur – not only from an ethical standard, but from an affordability perspective! Faux is normally less expensive than real fur and often you can’t even tell the difference. I think there’s nothing more glamorous than a dark furry coat thrown over a sparkly dress paired with heels in winter. It’s the perfect combination of carefree attitude meets old Hollywood glam.
I partnered up with a fellow DC blogger, Masha from White Silk, Black Leather, to showcase how various faux fur items can be interpreted differently and are suited to go with any wardrobe! We both have our own unique styles, so I had a blast comparing notes and learning from how she styled each of the items with her own flair. We both hope you enjoy our joint effort to update your winter style. Be sure to check out her blog post on the topic and get more info about how she chose to style the pieces in our shoot!
The three main items we styled were a black jacket, white vest, and red scarf. Each of these pieces can be statement makers, but are also incredibly versatile in solid colors and simple shapes that compliment a variety of patterns and textures. We hope you find inspiration from our collaboration and enjoy seeing our different interpretations!
Black Faux Fur Jacket
I received this jacket as a Christmas present in 2017. I love the fit and realistic look, and it actually is a very warm jacket to wear out in cold temperatures. I couldn’t pass up styling such a luxurious looking coat with a sparkly dress and bow embellished heels. It proves that you can be both stylish and stay warm at the same time. This look is perfect to wear to a birthday party or gala where you have the opportunity to make an entrance!

White Furry Vest
I’d seen Masha post this beautiful white vest before and was so happy to get the opportunity to style it for our shoot! I went for an apres-ski vibe with a burnt orange cable knit sweater, black jeans, and cream fleece-lined boots. I chose warm accents so the white pieces would stand out and feel cozier than if they were paired with simply black and gray. During dreary winter months I always turn to warm colors to brighten my mood, and this look perfectly encapsulates my ideal cozy, colorful winter look.

Red Faux Fur Scarf and Furry Bag
I’ve had this faux fur scarf for a few years now and am always surprised by how versatile it can be! The darker shade of burgundy plays well with blacks and bright colors alike. Masha’s adorable fuzzy bag was the perfect compliment to the sultry stole (despite being different shades of red) and added the right amount of texture and color into my outfit. These two additions prove that accessories can truly make an outfit and that details are so important when putting a look together that really stands out. The outfit is overall simple with black and pastel pink to let the pops of color really shine.

I hope you enjoyed seeing two different interpretations on how to style cozy faux fur pieces. I definitely got inspired by Masha and encourage you to turn to your friends for advice if you’re ever in a style rut. In the meantime, we hope you draw winter outfit inspiration from our looks over the next few months.
